![]() ![]() ![]() In our case we have Citrix Xen Desktop, so users rarely lose work due to an outage, they simply have to Power on the PC log into their Citrix session and pick up where they left off. However, all other workstations do not have a UPS and I will not be adding them. I have a UPS on the IT workstations and the Reception workstation (for phones) as well as all servers and network equipment. I was just curious if others have UPS on individual machines and if it's really worth it. I've looked into building UPS's too, and that's just too expensive. They bring up a home UPS only costs about $70, yes, but that's just for one, we have about 150 users, replacing every 3 years or so for safe measure adds up. I often get staff that complain when the power goes out, especially that came from elsewhere, about why they don't have UPS on their own machines. Once the generator kicks in, users can boot their PCs back up right away. ![]() On average the power goes out where we are about once every 3 months or so, but there are occasionally times where it goes out more often than that. I have all our servers, networking, and very mission critical personnel on UPS batteries however, a vast majority of user PCs (including my own) are not on UPS's. Unfortunately when the power goes off, it blips for about 3 seconds for the generator to kick in enough to take PCs offline. At my work, most of our buildings are on diesel generators. ![]()
